Pool to River Paddling – session for winter pool paddlers

24 March @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Pool to River Paddling – session for winter pool paddlers

We hope you have had a great time at the pool sessions over the winter season. Many of you asked what was next, so please see below for the next steps we hope that you’ll enjoy:

Saturday 24th March  2 – 4pm – FREE pool to river session for pool session participants ONLY

WHY

Things feel different on the river. As you’ve already paddled in the pool, and before you sign up for membership and river courses for 2018/19  this ‘pool to river’ session is to give all our ‘newer’ paddlers an idea about paddling outdoors.

WHEN? 2-4 paddling, but ideally  if you can be at the club by 1.30pm to get changed, equipment sorted etc.

WHERE? Our clubhouse is in Sowerby Bridge and we will be paddling upstream of County Bridge (or the canal if river levels are too high)

Family and friends can watch from the bridge or over the flood wall

Parking – there are no parking spaces at the club because we are in a residential complex.

Option 1 is to park behind Sowerby Bridge Market/B&M off the High street but this is pay and display on a Saturday. Option 2 is parking on the industrial estate between the river and railway line, then walk over county bridge to the club

WHAT WILL HAPPEN ON THE DAY? when you arrive we will sort out kit for you and you can choose kayak’s or have a go in open boats .  Each Group will be with a coach and at least 1 assistant and you will go down to the river, get on and have a go. The length of time everyone is on the water will depend on weather and individuals, you can get off early if you need to.

WHAT TO WEAR/BRING? Wear warm clothes that you don’t mind getting wet/muddy (trainers or deck shoes, tracksuit/running trousers, ideally thermal top and fleece and waterproof jacket) If you have a wetsuit and wet shoes then please wear those.

Also bring towel, shower kit and a change of clothes including warm jacket and possibly hat depending on weather.

The club has boats, paddles, spraydecks, helmets, buoyancy aids and some waterproof jackets that you can borrow free of charge.

THIS SESSION IS FOR POOL PADDLERS ONLY, SO PLEASE SIGN UP USING THE EXCLUSIVE LINK ENCLOSED IN YOUR EMAIL – SEE YOU ON THE RIVER! laugh
