Stay safe on the water – Spend a day learning skills to keep yourself and others safe on the water
The Foundation Safety & Rescue Training Course is a one-day course to equip you with the key safety and rescue skills required to paddle safety and deal with common emergencies on and around the water. These skills provide the foundation for safe paddling and the safety and rescue skills needed to progress British Canoeing awards and qualification The course is practically based working through a range of techniques including self-rescues, bank based rescues and boat based rescues. the skills covered int eh course and required by those progressing to Club coaching and Activity Assistant roles.
This is a full day course running from 9:00 – 18:00
You need to be:
- Have the BC Paddle Explore Award or 2 Star Award or equivalent ability – you need to hold the award, but need the skills to be able to move your boat into position to do the various rescues.
- Have suitable clothing for spending much of the day in the river ! (We may be able to help with this if you are struggling for suitable kit)
- There is no longer an age limit to do this course. Youngsters doing the course need to be up to spending a lot of the day in the water, and be able to carry out rescues
Cost: The course is FREE for club members, so the only costs are the certificate fees of £5 (British Canoeing members), £10 (non BC member) which will be collected from attendees on the day.
