Slalom Success at Wagon Lane, Bingley (May 2013)

Over the course of two days there were 13 club paddlers racing at this weekend’s Wagon Lane Div 3/4 slalom in Bingley.

The heavy rain overnight and the promise of more to come during Saturday dampened the enthusiasm somewhat, but didn’t deter Patrick and Ewan Neville from having a go in their first slalom, and coming close to promotion. Meanwhile Brain Dunn and Dave Stables raced in Div 3, and making an over-due return together in a C2 were Les and Sarah – for the first time in 3 years after a catalogue of injuries kept them out of the boat. And the heavy rain a river level that kept creeping up provided a much more challenging course than usual for this event.

Sunday saw a bus trip arrive from Halifax!  Adding to the numbers were James Fearnley,    Richard and Eddy Munt, Alex and Andy Luke, and Chris Benison, plus Gill Arnett doing a judges run (a knee injury keeping her out of the C1. Top results for the day was Patrick winning Div4 K1Men and gaining promotion and James coming in 4th overall and first Junior 14 which also earned him promotion.

Well done to them, and to all for coming along and having a go.

Thanks to Brian, Nathan, Sarah and Les for coaching and shifting boats and kit around.
