Pool Safety Award Training

Club Pool Sessions will be starting again in October – more details will be on the website etc shortly.

Once again we are running 2 weeks of training and assessment to get more people through the BCU Lifeguards Pool Endorsement Award – we need people with this award to provide ‘lifeguard’ cover on the poolside to run these sessions.  I know we have 5 people trained from last year, but it is helpful if we have as many people as possible with this award to share the role out.

The training and assessment we are doing is for the BCU Lifeguards Pool Endorsement Award – see detailed syllabus. As you will see much of the content is lifesaving/ rescues, pool hazards and proceedures, and CPR with little kayak based content, however it is the relevant award for our needs. It is important we have as many people as possible with this award, as we must have some-one with this award on poolside at all times during the session. Unlike previous pools sessions where we could borrow a lifeguard if we were short-handed, Salendine Nook is a School Pool and does nothave Lifeguards on site.

Pre-requisites for the Award are

  • having a valid FSRT course -i.e within 3 years (except coaches who are not required to update this)
  • Having a valid First Aid Certificate (min 8hrs)
  • be over 16
  • be able to swim 50m

The dates of the training/assessment are Thursdays 21st & 28th Sept ahead of the pool sessions which start in the first week of October (attendance need at both sessions). These sessions will be at 7-9pm at Salendine Nook High School Pool see https://www.swimming.org/poolfinder/pools/1203435/Huddersfield/Salendine+Nook+High+School/

The award is valid for 3 years, so those that did it last year do not need to do it again this year.

Please can you let me know if you would like to do this award, and confirm that you are able to attend the sessions – email Les Ford
