Another set of courses will start in mid Summer

What is involved: The courses cover all the fundamental skills of kayaking, plus of course all the safety aspects you need to get you started. Courses are run by our BCU qualified volunteer coaches. For adluts the course leds to the BCU 1 star award, for kids you will work towards the paddle power awards - the same skills but in a more modular format!

What to I need: The Club provides all the kayaking equipment you need (kayak, paddle, buoyancy aid, helmet). You need clothes to paddle in - old clothes you don't mind getting wet (tracksuit, fleece etc), ideally you need an old waterproof that you don't mind getting wet as well (this keeps the wind and water splashes off, so ensures you stay warm. You also need some old shoes to wear in your kayak (trainers, deck shoes, beach shoes etc). In addition you need a towel and change of clothes to go home in.

You also should be able to swim - ideally 50m, but you will have a buoyancy aid on all the time

Cost: The cost of a course is a membership of the Canoe Club. This is £40 for individuals, if 2 or more members of you family are on a course you need a family membership which is £65. This includes your membership of the Club all coaching and use of equipment. (note winter pool sessions are an extra cost as we have to cover the cost of hiring the pool)

How to Book on: If you are still interested in a beginners course please either email us back or telephone us 01484 854099 to confirm your place. We will need you to fill out a Club Membership form and a Safety Information Sheet which you can get from the membership area of our website or fill in on the first night, and then bring your money with you on the first night (cheques to Halifax Canoe Club please)

More details: There have been occasional incidents of theft from our changing rooms (non-members walking in and talking cash / phones. Where possible please your valuables at home, your coach will advise you where valuables can be left at the Club on the first night on the course.

If you have any other questions, please call or email
