Foundation Safety & Rescue Training

This is a one day course covering safety and rescue techniques on (and in) flat water including use of throw lines and towing. It is designed to give the paddlers more awareness and confidence to paddle safety themselves and to be able to aid other paddlers.

So this is useful for any paddlers wanting to become more independent and is also a requirement for anyone looking to do a coaching qualification.

To do the course you need to be over 14 and be at the standard of the BCU 2 Star Award (although you don’t actually have to have the award). Also a wet suit is going to be essential given that it is a practical ’getting’ wet course!

Contact Les Ford ( 01484 854099 or email if you are interested.

White Water Safety & Rescue Course

For the last few years we have organised one of these courses for members at the Tryweryn. The course covers swimming, safety and rescue techniques (boat, bank and swimming rescues) on grade 2 water, so  is a very valuable course for anyone paddling on white water. It’s also great fun!!

You need to be happy to paddle grade 2 water (and to swim in it!) and be prepared to be wet (but dry suits are provided). Also you need to be 16.

We will be organising another of these courses during the summer. The cost of the course is about £95 if we fill the course. This covers the two day course and is a good saving on what you would pay if you booked the course individually. You’ll also need accommodation for the weekend either camping or in a nearby bunkhouse.

To register your interest please contact Cliff Speight on ( 0791 702 2366  or email.

First Aid

We are also looking to arrange a one day First Aid course for members in the coming months. Obviously this is a valuable course for all paddlers as well as being essential for all coaches and potential courses. Again to register your interest contact Cliff Speight on ( 07917 022366 or email.
