Racing Round Up

July was another busy month of racing . . .

At the Washburn Div 1, it was Les came out on top of the club paddlers.

The following weekend was Howsham Weir over near York..  In the Div 3 , Nathan won the C1M on Saturday, and C2 both days. Roger had excellent results both days, including the Masters prize on Sunday, and Naomi score good points. In Div 2, Les had a win and a 2nd in his C1.  The event also hosted a Div 4 short course event starting below the weir, with Dave Fuller just missing out on promotion.

The main event was of course the Topo Duo event - with Sarah injured, Gill was co-opted to partner Les, bringing the duo home in 3rd to earn Chocolate medals. Beth (Nathan’s girlfriend) also made a slalom debut in the Duo with Nathan.

Then at the end of the month was Abbey Rapids where Brian, Roger and Les raced, and provided the entertainment in a team run (the team being aptly named ‘Waiting for Brian’). But the successes belonged to Gill who had a 2nd and then a 1st.

More Promotions!!

After all those results we have more promotions:

Who’s going to be next??

Clean Run Chart

With all this racing the clean run has been battered into submission - and people are closing in on Brian. Is he cracking under the pressure as he’s well down on the usual number of cleans.  The chart at the club is going to be updated every month.

Slalom News - August 2010

Slalom Training

Wednesday nights - Training is still on running on a Wednesday night for all that want it. I am looking to see if we can fit in another training session at Washburn and/or Matlock over the summer - just trying to find a dates and guess when the rain will be.

And don’t forget about the Yorkshire region slalom training week at Grandtully (Scotland) from 23 - 27th August. This is open to all paddlers in the region no matter what Division. Most of those going will be racing at the Fairnilee and Tully events and training during the week in between.

More Start Slalom - A forth ‘start slalom’ course will be running on Thursday evenings in September in the run up to the West Tanfield event.

Slalom Coach Training

On Sat 20th November Scott Bradley and Russ Smith will be coming to the Club to run a Foundation Slalom Coaching Module at the Club. This is an ‘add on’ for existing coaches to extend their skills and knowledge to coaching slalom. While it is for coaches, if there is space I am sure that club slalom paddlers could sit in too. Let me know if you are interested.  We’ll also need some Guinea pig paddlers to be coached so again let me know if you are interested.

On a similar vain in October Scott will also be coming to run 2 evening workshops for coaches, but which may also be of interest to slalom paddlers.

Tues 19th - Fitness for Paddlesports Foundation module

Tues 26th -  Performance Planning for Paddlesports

Again let me know if you are interested

That’s all for now - see you at the river!
