More slalom successes - this time at Sowerby Bridge

Firstly a big thank you to all who came along and helped out at our slalom at the end of June, and in putting up the course the week before the event.

Mandy Spry continued the run of start slalomer’s getting promoted from Div 4 with a win on Sunday.  Not to be outdone, the C2 of Blanchard and O’Hara won their event on Sunday and in a time that won them promotion to Div 2/3 - watch out Les & Sarah!

However to billing goes to Adrian following up his good form at Bingley with a second on Saturday and a win on Sunday in Div 3 which sees him promoted to Div 2

Again it was a brilliant turn out of club paddlers racing - making up almost ¼ of the field each day!

Other racing news:

Howsham Weir Div 2/3/4 Slalom - Sat & Sun 24th & 25th July

A reminder about this one, its a good event with camping on site. The 2/3 event is over the weir and the Div 4 is a short course starting below the weir and missing out the first 4 or 5 gates.

On Saturday it is also the regional inter-club championships - last year we were 3rd even though we didn’t have a full team - it would be great to have the kind of turn out that we had at Bingley to give it a good go.  Plus after Saturday’s race is the main event - a very competitive Topo Duo race!

Oh and they sometimes have chocolate as prizes!!

For  more details see the events page (including details of where it is).

If you are planning on coming please can you let me know  so I can select a team!

Slalom News - July 2010

Above and below: Highlights from Wagon Lane, Bingley

Slalom Training

Wednesday nights - Training is still on running on a Wednesday night for all that want it. I’ am looking to see if we can fit in another training session at Washburn and/or Matlock over the summer - just trying to find a dates and guess when the rain will be.

And don’t forget about the Yorkshire region slalom training week at Grandtully (Scotland) from 23 - 27th August. This is open to all paddlers in the region no matter what Division. Most of those going will be racing at the Fairnilee and Tully events and training during the week in between.

More Start Slalom - A forth ‘start slalom’ course will be running on Thursday evenings in September in the run up to the West Tanfield event.

Slalom Coach Training

On Sat 20th November Scott Bradley and Russ Smith will be coming to the Club to run a Foundation Slalom Coaching Module at the Club. This is an ‘add on’ for existing coaches to extend their skills and knowledge to coaching slalom. While it is for coaches, if there is space I am sure that club slalom paddlers could sit in too. Let me know if you are interested.  We’ll also need some Guinea pig paddlers to be coached so again let me know if you are interested.

On a similar vain in October Scott will also be coming to run 2 evening workshops for coaches, but which may also be of interest to slalom paddlers.

Tues 19th - Fitness for Paddlesports Foundation module

Tues 26th -  Performance Planning for Paddlesports

Again let me know if you are interested

That’s all for now - see you at the river!
