Big Bingley Successes

Well the graduates of the start slalom class did themselves proud at Wagon Lane!  Second and promoted - Lois, third and promoted - Christine, both on Saturday. Not to be outdone on Sunday, Pete - first and promoted.

Congratulations to Adrian forth on Saturday and third on Sunday in Div 3 looks like he’s shaping up for promotion. Plus Roger hitting his best ever (?) result of 700 points followed by 600+.  Then new partnership of Keith and Roger took to the C2, came second and missed promotion by a 0.7secs, also beating more established C2’ers Anita and Vicky, but only due to a disputed 50.  In the C1W showdown Sarah came out ahead by just fraction of a second from Anita.

It was fantastic to have a great turn out - 14 of us racing and cheering.  Plus seeing people jump in wibbly wobbly wavehoppers over lunch was fab!

Other racing news:

Howsham Weir Div 2/3/4 Slalom - Sat & Sun 24th & 25th July

An early warning of this one. Its a good event with camping on site. The 2/3 event is over the weir and the Div 4 is a short course starting below the weir and missing out the first 4 or 5 gates.

On Saturday it is also the regional inter-club championships - last year we were 3rd even though we didn’t have a full team - it would be great to have the kind of turn out that we had at Bingley to give it a good go.  Plus after Saturday’s race is the main event - a very competitive Topo Duo race!

Oh and they sometimes have chocolate as prizes!!

For  more details see the events page (including details of where it is).

If you are planning on coming please can you let me know  so I can select a team!

Slalom News - June 2010

Above and below: Highlights from Wagon Lane, Bingley

Slalom Training

Wednesday nights - Training is still on running on a Wednesday night for all that want it. The planned trip to the Washburn on 16th June will have to be re-arranged as we have a club coaches meeting on that night (after a shortened training session). Those of us that went to the Washburn for a Wednesday session had a great time, really getting stuck into big water in slalom boats - impressive stuff.

And don’t forget about the Yorkshire region slalom training week at Grandtully (Scotland) from 23 - 27th August.

More Start Slalom - A third ‘start slalom’ course will be kicking off next week in the run up to our own slalom.

Canoe 2012 Day - Sun 23rd May

Ten people came along to our try slalom day in May - hopefully we’ll see some of these at our June event. Thanks to Roger and Sarah for helping out on the water.

Slalom Coach Training

On Sat 20th November Scott Bradley and Russ Smith will be coming to the Club to run a Foundation Slalom Coaching Module at the Club. This is an ‘add on’ for existing coaches to extend their skills and knowledge to coaching slalom. While it is for coaches, if there is space I am sure that club slalom paddlers could sit in too. Let me know if you are interested.  We’ll also need some Guinea pig paddlers to be coached so again let me know if you are interested.

On a similar vain in October Scott will also be coming to run 2 evening workshops for coaches, but which may also be of interest to slalom paddlers.

Tues 19th - Fitness for Paddlesports Foundation module

Tues 26th -  Performance Planning for Paddlesports

Again let me know if you are interested

That’s all for now - see you at the river!
