I’m trying this out as a monthly email - let me know whether you can open it and what you think -

Wednesday night slalom training

Our session on 10th Feb is off - I’m on course, and a quick poll the other week suggest most others can’t make it either. Having cancelled the session on 3rd Feb due to the snow things have been a bit hit and miss.

So to make up for these, I’ll be at the club on Sat 6th and Sat 13th Feb from 10am if anyone wants to join me for extra training coaching. I know these are busy weekends with other club activities, but come along if you can.

More Training

One thing I’m keen to do more of this year is run sessions at other slalom venues. This means you are already used to the sites when you go there to race, and gives the chance to move on to harder courses before racing on them.

To start this off I’m planning to do a session at Matlock on Sat 27th Feb. You may have already been here on the club Derwent river trips - the slalom course is the last bit. There is a Div 2/3 slalom here on the last weekend in April, so it’s an idea place to go train before that. It’s no harder than our course (if that), but it’ll be worth spending time there ahead of the upcoming race. And a bit of useless trivia - Matlock is also where I got promoted from Div 4 to Div 3 - but that was when there was a Div 5 and 1 in 10 got promoted each race - excuse me while drift into nostalgia. . .

Anyway the plans is to meet there at about 10am - please let me know if you plan to come along.

Sat & Sun 13 & 14 Feb - Tryweryn (remember to check there is a release before you travel!)

Tues 16th Feb - Supposedly at the Tees barrage, but as it’s closed . . .

Wed 17th Feb - HPP

Sat & Sun 20 & 21 Feb - HPP

- Sat 27th Feb - Darlington Pool Slalom - first ever indoor ranking slalom! - it’s a Div 4, but they’ll need judges too

- Sun 14th March - Stone Div 3/4 slalom - we’ll be going

- Sat & Sun 20th & 21st March - Sowerby Bridge Div 2/3 Double - entry is virtually compulsory for those in Div 2 &3!

Time to get you bib!

Don’t wait for the slalom yearbook to drop through your door, you can apply for your bib now!

The forms are available on www.canoeslalom.co.uk either to fill in and print off or print off and fill in (it does make sense when you go to the page!). On the website you can also find out what bib number you have.

Start Slalom (Yes, I know you already have)

Something new this year - I’m running some intro slalom session. These will be 3 weeks of coaching at the club and wek 4 will be at a Div 4 race - so hopefully we’ll be getting some more people promoted and joining our training session. The first course is full and starts on 21st Feb and culminates at the Stone Div 3/4. The plan is to run more of these throughout the year to tie in with local Div 3/4 competitions.

Also if any one is interested in helping out / shadowing me coaching on these let me know
