Slenningford slalom weekend, this was my second slalom away from the club. I was pleasantly surprised by the enthusiastic welcome given on our arrival. On paying the campsite fee, which was so cheap, I even managed to get a beer as part of the welcome, what a good start. The place was packed, something I wasn’t expecting, we corralled the campers into a big circle ready for the camp fire later.

Saturday saw my first pre-run attempt end up as a swimmer, then no surprise on my first run I swam. I was greatly encouraged by one the judges to get myself back over the river and take his beer as consolation, what a good idea. My final run went well I avoided a few gates and made it to the finish.

In between runs I also competed with Sarah in the Topo Duo, yes we are completely mad, however it as to be said we had great fun, completing both runs without a swim!

Congratulations to Gemma for coming first in the J14 and moving up to Division 3, to Roberta Davis who was 3rd and also promoted to Division 3, and to Matthew who was third each day, so gains promotion to Division 2.

A pleasant evening was had chatting and drinking round the campfire, we even managed to lure Brian away from his cosy warm caravan.

I would like to thank John (big dog) & John for helping provide safety cover, I know it set Gemma’s mind at ease to know there was someone on the water she knew.

Others racing were Jonathon Spencer, Nic Jowett (Nic & Jonathon racing in the C2 and individually in K1’s), Chris Humphries, Les & Sarah (both together and individually), Georgina Davis (in the Topo Duo with Sarah, Brian Dunn, Paul Davison and Paul Dennis - a really good turnout from the club and a great weekend.
