Summer is still here so there’s still time for everyone to get down on the river and enjoy paddling in the glorious weather!

The Club’s second block of river coaching session start during the week commencing 6th July (unless stated).

As ever, the Club’s coaches will be running a series of groups for members, if you want coaching with the Club you’ll need to join one of these groups - depending on what you want to do. Here’s how it works:

  • Sign up for a group by 2nd July - do this by signing up on the course lists on the noticeboard when you are at the club or contacting Sarah Ford ( 01484 854099 or email. If you are staying on an existing course please make sure your name is down.
  • Session run until mid-September.
  • Juniors must paddle in one of these groups, or with their parent.
  • If the lead coach is not available, they will arrange for another coach to take the session or cancel and tell you when the next session is.
  • Please remember, our coaches are all volunteers and give up their free time to run these sessions.

We have tried to ensure our sessions cover the widest range of paddlers needs. So here are the details of the session being offered, (we are keeping a reserve list for those marked as fully booked):

Monday’s

PaddlePower - fundamental skills including PaddlePower awards (John Stopford) - Continuing the existing class plus some spaces available.

Play-boating workshop - for newcomers and more advanced play boater - Continuing the existing class and possibly some spaces available.

For more details about what is involved in each block speak to one of the Club’s coaches or look on the website www.halifaxcanoe.org.uk.

Please note that for safety, coaching and equipment reasons there is a limit to the number of people that we can take on each session - but we will do our best to accommodate everyone!

Hopefully these session will cover the needs of most Club paddlers, if there is anything we are not covering please let one of the coaches know so we can try and accommodate them during the summer. One area that we know there is a demand for is additional coaching in open boats / Canadian canoes - we are looking to arrange some additional coaching sessions (probably on weekends) to cover this and hopefully offer the BCU 3 Star Award in Open Canoe.

We will also be continuing to help any young people wanting to use canoeing towards their or GCSE, As or A level PE or Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards. If you are interested in these, in the first instance speak to Cliff Speight.

Club Sunday’s

Following the success of these over the winter we are going to try and keep these monthly sessions running over the summer - usually on the second Sunday of the month at the Club (but check the events list to confirm the dates), and running from 10am till about 12noon.

There will be coaches around to help anyone that wants some coaching or encouraging, but these won't be formal coached classes like we run on evenings However, these will not be beginners sessions! You need to competent paddling on the river at the Club.  Also remember juniors still need to paddle either with a coach , with parents or under the Club’s Young People’s Paddling policy.
