Calderdale Council - Consultation documents

People are being given the chance to have their say on the draft Holmes Road Supplementary Planning Document (SPD), see what it is all about and how it could shape future development within Sowerby Bridge.

Calderdale Council in partnership with Yorkshire Forward, aim to revitalise the area around Holmes Road in Sowerby Bridge. The main objective is to ensure the creation of a high quality development that would enhance the character and appearance of the wider Sowerby Bridge Conservation Area.

This is important to you and the Canoe Club as the area being considered in the current consultation is the area along the riverside immediately opposite the club and white water course.

The consultation on the Holmes Road area will inform Council’s Local Development Framework (LDF) and then used to inform any planning applications relating to this area in the future.

The period of this early consultation runs from Friday 24th April 2009 to 5pm on Friday 5th June 2009.

Copies of the documents for the Holmes Road area are available for inspection on the Council's website (click here) and the following locations::

The Council is also holding a number of drop-in events at Sowerby Bridge Library on:

These drop-in sessions are for the public to come along and discuss with Officers what the draft Holmes Road SPD is all about and how it is hoping to shape future development within Sowerby Bridge. Given that this will affect the riverside by the Club, members may want to go along/view thedocuments to find out more.

Members may also see information in the press about proposals for further development along the river at Copley, (the Sowerby Bridge Copley Valley Development Opportunity) which covers the development of the area around Sterne Mill (Standard Wire weir) including re-shaping the weir itself. The Club have had initial discussions with the Council at stakeholder meetings with a view to improving facilities for canoeing on this part of the river. Further consultation is due on this area, and we’ll Keep you posted about this.

Anyone wanting further details of this affects the club should speak to Roger Blanchard.
