MP visits Canoe Club
As members are reminded with what is probably
becoming tedious regularity, the club is a limited company run by a committee
(including the club’s directors) who meet monthly. Members have a right to
know what decisions are made about the running of the club and how your subs and
other income is being spent, so this is a new feature to update you about the
main decisions taken by the committee in the last few months.
In January …
- we made final preparations for
the AGM
- we decided not to include insurance for
members boats stored at the Club house in the Club’s insurance, owing to
practical difficulties and costs in arranging this type of cover
- we agreed to continue with a team approach to
organising slaloms, encouraging volunteers to help on the day and get
involved in setting up and managing these important Club events
- we affiliated to The Burrs in Bury, giving us
access to their changing rooms (great for cold winter river trips), pool
hire and 10% off their courses.
In February …
- we co-opted Adrian Ward onto the committee as
Equipment Officer, a post which remained vacant at the AGM.
- we approved the accounts for the year ending
30th June 2006 and proposals to change the Club’s rules, ready
for to put to members at the EGM.
- we made it a pre-requisite for coaches wishing
to be on the coaching register to have an up to date CRB check.
- we approved revisions to the Club’s Health
& Safety policies, reviewed by new H & S Officer John Stopford
- we nominated Roger Blanchard, Environment and
Access Officer to represent the Club on the Calder Futures board.
- we approved the summer coaching programme
proposed by Cliff Speight, Coaching Co-ordinator.
In March …
- we approved the purchase of new adult and
junior paddles and helmets for the start of the season. With more adults
joining the club, we recognise the need to make sure we have enough bigger
boats. We are seeking funding for this.
- we approved the purchase of new fire
extinguishers. We are seeking advice from the Fire Authority to make sure we
are complying with new fire regulations which came in late last year.
- we discussed the growth of the club and the
increasing need to find additional space to store boats and equipment. No
conclusions yet – ideas welcome!
The committee usually meets on the second
Wednesday of the month. All members of the Club are welcome to attend meetings
and ask questions. Meetings are open unless we need to discuss confidential
business. Minutes (as opposed to these “highlights”) are available to
members at the Club house.
