Club Activities

Club river sessionSummer Club Nights

During the summer (April - September) Coaching session take place on the riveron most nights of the week. These are available to any club members and for all levels of ability. Coaching sessions for both juniors and adult are led by BCU qualified club coaches.

Sessions make use of the flat and white water facilities at club to develop paddlers skills or progress towards different awards.

Younger members are encouraged to participate in star awards or Tiger Sharks (see below) our junior group - to get experience of different forms of canoeing, learn new skills and work towards the PaddlePower and other Awards.

Experienced paddlers can usually be found playing on the various drops on the white water course.

We also run beginner's courses on the river in the summer (with separate courses for juniors and adults). These introduce people to the basics of canoeing and lead to a test for the British Canoe Union One Star Award.

We are also encouraging paddlers to have a try at competitive canoeing. Click here to find out more about opportunities to try different types of competitions.

Tiger Sharks is the name of the junior section of Halifax Canoe Club. The idea is to have a squad of young people try out the many different forms of paddlesport available, to have a go at competing in various events, have a lot of fun and gain awards along the way. Most of the activities that the Tiger Sharks do will count towards the PaddlePower Awards.

But you need to be up to the responsibilities that being a Tiger Shark involves:

  • Practice Hard

  • Learn from others

  • Compete, take part and represent your club

  • Support the Squad, be a team member.

  • Gain qualifications. (star awards, Paddlepower etc)

  • Have Fun!

  • Meet and beat your potential.

  • Try different paddle sports.

  • Have supportive Parents/Guardians

If that's you, then Halifax CC Tiger Sharks needs YOU? The group is open to any young paddlers (under 16 years only) who are family members of the Club and who have passed their BCU One Star Award (i.e. have competed one of our beginners courses). If you haven’t got 1 Star yet, we easily help you to get this as soon as possible - so no excuses kids.

Winter Club Nights

In the winter months (October to March), the club runs pools sessions for juniors and adults at Sowerby bridge baths on a Monday evening. Beginners can get to grips with the basics, while established paddlers can perfect their Eskimo roll's and other skills in the warm water.

Throughout the winter months, the club is active on most weekends either paddling at the club or on trips to paddle rivers across the country.

More details and dates for club activities can be found on the events & trips page.
