Learn to Canoe with Halifax Canoe Club
Do you want to learn how to canoe? You may have seen canoeists on the local river and wondered what it was like. In the summer the club run Beginners Courses for both adults and children on the River Calder from our base in Sowerby Bridge. These are eight week courses run by our British Canoe Union qualified coaches with an emphasis on a safe and fun introduction to canoeing. By the end of these courses you will be at a standard to take the BCU One Star Test. Courses includes:
In the winter the club run Pool
Session for both adults and children at Elland Baths
on a Monday evening. These are in blocks of six weeks with coaching available from our British
Canoe Union qualified coaches. Learning to canoe in a swimming pool is a good way to learn in
the winter - the water is warm if you do happen to fall in! Pool sessions are open to our members as well as they provide an opportunity to learn advanced skills (such as Eskimo rolling) in the warm water. Pool sessions include:
