A popular trip from Mickley to West Tanfield down the river Ure with gentle grade 2 and flatter stretches before the slightly harder section at Slenningford Water Milll campsite. There’s an option to start a litttle further up at Hack Falls – but that means a long walk down to the river.
Difficulty: A mix of easy water and grade 2, then the final section of rapids at Slenningford can reach grade 3. Plus there are a couple of weirs, one of which can be nasty, but is easily portaged. In high water the river becomes big an bouncy.
Suitable for intermediate club paddlers and those that have completed a beginngers course and are comfortable paddling down the white water course at the club (this is often one of the first white water trips people do)
Where is it: near Ripon
Where do we meet: At the club at 8:30am to load up / organise car shares. If you plan to travel separately contact the organiser for details of where and when to meet us near the river.
What do I need: Normal paddling equipment (wetsuit/warm clothing – not wetsuit shorts – and waterproof top, buoyancy aid, spray deck, helmet), pack lunch and hot drink (in a flask), plus snacks, change of clothing (including warm clothes for after paddling), towel. There is a charge to park and use the facilities at Slenningford (£5) so bring some cash.
Organiser: Les Ford 07786 525912 or email@example.com
Other Information: If you plan to come on a trip, please let the listed contact know that you are coming – this is so we know who to expect (and make sure we wait for you) and on some trips numbers can be limited. Also plans may change at a late stage (due to water levels etc), so we might need to get hold of you to let you know.
If you are not sure whether you are up to this trip, speak to the contact listed for that trip, who will be able to advise you further.
We will also need a consent form / parents permission for any under 18’s that want to come on a trip. Download a consent form from the ‘Club Policies Page (under Health & Safety).
