- February 2008 - Part 2
Read
part 1
The
continuing story of our Scottish Adventure. . .
Tuesday
- Awe - grade 2/3. A very chilly start - minus 2.5 and very low levels mean
the lower Orchy is out, but the compensation flow out of the barrage at Loch Awe
is just enough to scrape down.
| Too cold to get changed - minus 2.5 degrees in Glen Orchy does nothing
to inspire any one to get on for a paddle |
Les' YMCA inspired warm up routine falls flat - at least the sun is
out and there's some water coming out of the Brander barrage. |
| A rocky start - Mark pick his way through the graveyard section,
others came a cropper. |
Roger goes for a surf - further down the river heads into a small
gorge, where it becomes deeper with a few waves to play |
| It happens to us all - Les empties out after a swim while the group
try to stifle there laughter. |
Source to sea - Stoppy would be impressed paddling from the source of
the river at the barrage out onto Loch Etive with stunning views and
easy reach of the chippy in Oban! |
Wednesday
- Tay - grade 1/2(3). Now we were getting desperate for water, so a 2 hour
drive across country to the river Tay, finishing at the slalom site at 'Tully'.
The Tay is a big river, draining a big loch. Five days after any really rain it
was surprisingly high, so provided a great introduction to big volume paddling
| Getting used to the bigger volume water on the upper section of the Tay. |
It doesn't look too bad from here - looking down he Tully slalom course
from the top. |
| Ok it's bigger than it looks Mark fights through the big waves. |
Meanwhile Sarah sits in the sun waiting to pick up the pieces at the
bottom of the rapid. |
| Nick takes it all in his stride - despite the waves being bigger than
his boat. |
Meanwhile dad plays a visit to one of the stoppers at the top of the
course. |
