Anglesy Easter Trip 2004

John Stopfords Diary (abridged!)

Friday

6am Set off, van full of boats, tent etc.
8am Breakie, at the Golden Arches
10am Arrived at campsite. Great - hot showers, clean toilets. Thanks, Michael and Andrea for setting it up.
11am Tents up
1pm Quick paddle at Four Mile Bridge
5,30 Tea, from the camping stove.
8pm Boycie’s awning for evening drink and another and another etc.
11pm Bed

Saturday

7.30 Woke up, had breakfast.
10am decided to go to Red Wharf Bay for a paddle and possible surf.
12noon arrive at Red Wharf Bay
12.05 put on wet wetsuit urhhh.
12.15 paddled the half-foot surf, scary.
12.15-4.30 Swim chart begins to populate, thanks Rob, Boycie & Andrea. The adults and kids played on skim and body boards plus played other games on the beach. Some adults played with kites. Vic was so scared of the surf (or was that cold water??) he decided not to paddle. Other paddlers from club met us after trying the swellies on the Menia straits.
5.30 Evening BBQ, Rob A brought every thing other than a dishwasher.
8.30pm Retired to Boycie’s Awning for evening drinks. (note Boycie had a heater). Rob S was in top form and nobody escaped his diverse humour.
10.30 Cannot remember much after this point other than we laughed a lot and somehow we managed to find our tents and sleeping bags. Only one person got up to be sick. Lee kept everyone awake with his snoring, almost caused one couple to divorce; Lee said, 'I slept well'.

Sunday

8.30am Got Up and had breakfast
11.30am-4pm Four Mile Bridge, the swim chart racked up victims. 16 Paddlers had a great time with a safe tidal flow through an 8-foot arch. The inflatable dinghy got some stick. The kids paddled, fished and generally gave their parents a rest as they played for hours. The boils and eddies at four mile bridge caught out many of the paddlers, (but Pete rolled to excitement of others) even on the sit on that Den had. We all played until the salt rubs caused too much pain
5pm Meet to have a meal out.
10pm Returned for a quiet night in.

Monday

8am Got up
noon Fish and Chip Lunch, Rhosnieger. Andrea stocked up on sauce sachets and we all helped, pockets bulging.
1pm Cable Bay for a lovely sunny afternoon. Beach fun, crag hopping, coastal kayaking, exploring the nucks and crannies. Kids played again many fishing for crabs along the cliffs. Rob A and his family are now converts. We slid of rocks in kayaks, Moss achieved a full face slap as he slide off, landing upside down.
5pm BBQ and more beers. Moss asked for my help to finish a crate of Boddy’s, which I duly did.
11.30 Bed

Tuesday

8am Got up - felt rough, rough enough not to eat my breakfast. Learning point, don’t drink too much. 'I’ll never do that again, honest!'
10am Tents packed up and going home, to a burst water tank, nice welcome home.

Great weekend away with once again a mix of regular and new faces to our club. Every body had a very warm and enjoyable weekend, only the surf let us down. Hope you can free your diaries up for next year.
