March 2006 slalom report

This was a new event for the club to try at promote the upcoming Wavehopper Challenge race for kids and to introduce and bit of friendly and fun competition.

With Sarah Ford in charge everyone in sight was issued with a bib and no option but to race (strangely though Sarah herself managed not to race!) and we soon rattled up and entry of 27 mostly willing competitors.

Before the start there was the chance to try out a wavehopper - oddly long and tippy to those unaccustomed to them - but Les' helpful advice (there not to bad unless you stop paddling!) encourage people to give it a go, although there was the option of racing any boat.

There were many wobble and swims - too many to list - but there are a few honourable mentions that must be made:

Cliff Speight - for the quickest run including a capsize on the way
Roger Blanchard - for the slowest run (albeit including a capsize)

Thanks to Sarah F, Sarah D and Amanda for doing the timing, Paul for freezing his toes as he held people on the start, the safety boats (who got lots of practice) and all those who entered into the spirit of competition.
